zkPass Raises $12.5 Million for Data Verification Technology

Funding will accelerate the development of zkTLS for secure private data sharing and verification

In a significant development for the realm of data privacy and verification, zkPass has successfully completed a $12.5 million Series A funding round. This financing will accelerate the development of zkPass's cutting-edge oracle protocol designed to facilitate secure and verifiable data exchanges across various platforms. The funding comes from an impressive roster of investors, underscoring the technology's transformative potential in the web3 landscape.

Details of the Funding Round

The recent funding round attracted a diverse group of investors, including dao5, CE Innovation Capital, Animoca Brands, L2 Iterative Ventures (L2IV), UOB Venture Management, Flow Traders, Amber Group, Leland Ventures, IOBC Capital, Signum Capital, Bing Ventures, MH Ventures, WAGMI Ventures, Taisu Ventures, and Ceras Ventures. With this latest round, zkPass has raised a total of $15 million, building upon the $2.5 million seed round concluded in August 2023.

The new capital will be instrumental in advancing the development and market adoption of zkTLS, zkPass’s innovative oracle solution. This technology is poised to revolutionize secure cross-ecosystem data exchange through the application of advanced cryptographic techniques.

zkTLS: A Game-Changer in Data Privacy

At the core of zkPass's strategy is zkTLS, a pioneering framework that combines 3P-TLS and Hybrid Zero-Knowledge (ZK) technologies. This solution allows users to generate Zero-Knowledge Proofs (ZKPs) of private data directly in their browsers in less than one second. This capability ensures both privacy and data integrity, a crucial requirement in today’s digital landscape. Currently, zkPass boasts over 200 schemas sourced from more than 70 verified web data providers, contributing to the generation of over 2 million zk attestations across multiple sectors, including finance, e-commerce, social media, and online education.

Michael Lie, Global Head of Digital Assets at Flow Traders, expressed enthusiasm for the investment, noting that zkPass's approach to leveraging zero-knowledge technology enhances data verification, privacy, and authenticity across both traditional finance (TradFi) and decentralized finance (DeFi) sectors.

Bridging Web2 and Web3

The zkTLS framework is designed to bridge the gap between the existing Web2 ecosystem and emerging Web3 applications. By enabling secure and selective data sharing, zkPass empowers users to prove their identity, financial records, and even healthcare information without disclosing sensitive personal data. This innovative solution has broad applications, ranging from lending to artificial intelligence, decentralized identity (DID), and more.

With zkTLS, zkPass aims to facilitate the integration of significant amounts of private data from traditional internet sources into decentralized applications. This seamless data transfer could reshape existing business models and open up new avenues for revenue generation in both financial and non-financial sectors.

Future Plans and Market Adoption

Bing Jiang, Co-founder and CTO of zkPass, emphasized the company's commitment to positioning zkTLS at the forefront of Web3 innovation. He expressed gratitude for the trust and support from investors, stating that the funding would enhance zkPass’s technology development and market outreach. The company is eager to demonstrate the real-world applications of zkTLS and its potential to revolutionize data verification processes.

Following the successful completion of this funding round, zkPass plans to expand its team, focusing on engineering, marketing, and business development functions. The company is also preparing for the launch of its native token, which is slated for the first quarter of 2025. Jiang indicated that this new fundraising has valued zkPass at approximately $100 million, highlighting the growing interest in secure, privacy-preserving solutions in the evolving Web3 landscape.

zkPass's successful Series A funding round marks a pivotal moment in the development of privacy-focused technologies. As the demand for secure data verification solutions grows, zkPass is well-positioned to lead the charge in enhancing data privacy across multiple sectors. With the backing of prominent investors and a commitment to innovation, zkPass aims to redefine the standards of data sharing in both traditional and decentralized ecosystems. The company’s journey promises to be one of significant impact as it seeks to empower users with greater control over their data while opening new pathways for decentralized applications.
